INMM DEIA Professional Development Program (PDP)

What is the INMM Professional Development Program (PDP)?

The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee will host an 18-month professional development program (PDP) for 5 participants (PDP Fellows) at all career stages. The PDP Fellows will be matched with senior INMM members (mentors) to research a topic of relevance to the INMM mission. During the program the PDP Fellows will each write a paper on the topic using publicly available resources and guidance from the mentor and publish the findings in the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management (JNMM). The PDP is open to INMM and non-INMM members. The INMM membership fees will be covered for the PDP Fellows during their participation in the program.

The INMM DEIA Professional Development Program is funded through a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

INMM Mission

The INMM is dedicated to the safe, secure and effective stewardship of nuclear and other radioactive materials and related technologies through the advancement of scientific knowledge, technical skills, policy dialogue, professional capabilities, and best practices.

DEIA Committee Policy

The INMM is an international organization which deeply values the diversity of its members, convinced that a variety of views, disciplines, nationalities, ethnicities, sexual orientation, parental status, experiences and age levels, and equitable gender representation, enrich the INMM and improve the quality of its work. The INMM therefore seeks to broaden the diversity of its members and remove obstacles to the participation of underrepresented constituencies, including those from the least developed countries.

To broaden diversity, the DEIA committee will work with INMM members, technical divisions, sustaining organizations, chapter leadership and other partners, to provide opportunities for individuals from underrepresented groups to enhance their education and professional development through increased participation in Institute activities, internships, and access to INMM’s network of professionals and organizations. The target audience for this PDP includes:

  • Practitioners from least developed countries
  • Practitioners who identify as women, persons with disabilities, underrepresented minorities or LGBTQIA+
  • Practitioners from underrepresented disciplines in INMM (cyber, emerging technologies, nuclear industry)

Fellowship Term: October 1, 2023 – March 31, 2025

PDP Fellows are required to:

  1. Participate in program kick-off, three check-ins, program events, 2024 INMM Annual Meeting and program review
  2. Participate in monthly research discussion with mentors (virtual or in-person)
  3. Submit midway and final progress report to the DEIA Committee
  4. Submit research paper to the JNMM

On successful completion of the 18-month program the PDP Fellows will receive a completion certificate and $500 honorarium.
