Department Chair, Nonproliferation and National Security

Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a candidate to assume the role of Chair of the Nonproliferation and National Security Department within the Global and Regional Solutions Directorate. The Department has a staff of 60 and an annual budget of $40 million. Programs include advanced radiation detector research and development, radiation incident response, international safeguards and nonproliferation analysis, management of technical support to IAEA safeguards, cooperative nuclear safeguards and security with personnel in facilities in Russia and other States and related programs. Candidates should have an advanced degree (preferably in physical sciences, engineering or mathematics) and at least 10 years of experience in nuclear materials safeguards, nonproliferation, national security or related areas. A successful candidate will have at least 10 years experience in managing and leading a technical organization of at least 40 to 50 people. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to obtain funded projects in areas relevant to nonproliferation, homeland security and nuclear safeguards. Candidate must have excellent verbal and writing skills, familiarity with nuclear and weapons of mass destruction materials, terminology and concepts.

technology, is seeking a Unit Head for its Project Engineering Unit in
the Attended and Unattended Non-Destructive Assay Section.
This individual manages and leads a team of project engineers in the
planning, supervision and implementation of activities. She/he also acts
as the Technical Coordinator for the projects under the responsibility of
PEU, requiring liaison with the relevant Operation Divisions and
coordinates and tracks the activities of the other technical units of the
Division of Technical Support in order to provide and maintain quality
equipment and technical solutions for effective safeguards
implementation in large facilities.

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position

A postdoctoral research or more senior research position is available with Princeton University's Nuclear Futures Laboratory, an initiative of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Program on Science and Global Security of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Independent and collaborative research will support projects at the interfaces of nuclear-energy use, climate change, and nuclear nonproliferation. Additional responsibilities include work with undergraduate and graduate students in the group and project support of the International Panel on Fissile Materials. Applicants should have a PhD in engineering or the physical sciences and have expertise in nuclear reactor and fuel cycle analysis. Preference will be given to candidates with interest in energy-systems modeling and policy issues related to one or more of these areas. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension. The salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience.
